Daihatsu has showcased their electric car prototype, Ayla EV, at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (2022). So far there has been no sign of when this product will be launched. But what is certain is that the Daihatsu factory in Karawang, West Java, will be prepared to assemble the Ayla EV.
Full battery electric cars are increasingly crowded in Indonesia. Several manufacturers, both from Japan, South Korea and China, already have their own champions in the electric vehicle segment. Toyota already has the bZ4X, Hyundai with the Ioniq 5, and Wuling with its cheap electric car, the Air Ev.
Daihatsu, as one of the best-selling brands in Indonesia, also does not want to be left behind in enlivening the era of the environmentally friendly vehicle industry. The manufacturer, which is still in the same blood as Toyota, has shown off a prototype of an electric car, the Ayla EV, in 2022.
“We will definitely go there (electric cars) as a commitment from government regulation in 2025,” said Sri Agung Handayani, as Marketing Director and Corporate Planning & Communication Director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) at a media gathering in Jakarta , Tuesday (17/1/2023).
Agung continued, adding that their factory, which is located in Karawang, will later be prepared to assemble the Ayla EV. But indeed the assembly will not be done in the near future. Daihatsu will wait until the market is really ready to accept electric vehicles.

“Regarding the Ayla EV, we have R n D in Karawang, and one of the parts is engineering prepared. This engineering is actually what we are preparing for the EV (Electric Vehicle),” Agung added.
“So in the future (when) this EV has become a market volume, we are a ready manufacturer,” continued Agung.
When asked by reporters if there was a possibility that Ayla EV would be launched this year, Agung confirmed no. According to him, there are still many aspects that need to be prepared. Not only just assembling, but also need to think about the wastes.

“Back to the question of Ayla (EV), will this be marketed? This year we don’t want to market Ayla EV yet. So that friends (the media) are not confused. Because this capability is not one aspect. It means it’s not just (a matter of) assembly, but it has to be quality, long term, renewal. Incidentally we are Daihatsu who adhere to the waste, in the end we have requirements, global requirements,” said Agung.
