“Dagamba” shocks again, crossing Bach with “Rage Against The Machine”

After a three-year hiatus, classical music hooligans, the group “Dagamba” announced a new concert program – it is called “Bach Against The Machine” and will be presented to a wider audience at a large concert on June 3, 2023 at the Big Stage in Mežapark.

The new concert program “Dagamba” blends the music of the father of academic music, composer Johann Sebastian Bach, and the work of the most influential rock group “Rage Against The Machine” in the typical way of musicians. “The compositions contain topical themes: a protest against existing injustice, war and the insurmountable dominance of technology alongside simplicity, spirituality, purity and beauty of nature,” the musicians emphasize.

The first harbinger of the new program is the song “Killing In The Name Of Bach”, in the video where “Dagamba” dared to bring the legendary composer back to life in a physical form – he is performed by the father of the band leader Valters Pūce, composer Valts Puce.

The video was made by Valter’s mother, director Dace Pūce, while the impressive visual world was created by cameraman Jānis Andrejevs. “In the clip, Bach has been brought to life and the church has been brought into the modern world. Just as we do with music, we connect different worlds, the old with the new, seemingly incompatible,” says Walters. “We almost literally took the church as a modern Mežaparks Big Stage sanctuary, projecting stained glass windows and organs onto its stairways with huge projectors.”

“The idea for ‘Bach Against the Machine’ came after the success of the ‘#LudwigVanRammstein’ concert tour. In the context of current world events, we felt that now is the right time to implement this idea. The music of great artists from different centuries requires a great reach, both sonically and visually, so we will be happy to bring this musical gathering of great spirits to the public in early summer right on the Mežaparks Great Stage, which is also a symbol of our nation’s freedom and unity,” said Valters Pūce.
