Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office Criminal Division 3 (Chief Cho Jae-cheol) announced on the 16th that Mr. Gil was arrested and indicted on charges of aggravated robbery and habitual gambling.

According to the prosecution, Mr. Gil gambled a total of 4.124 billion won on 4,651 occasions on illegal internet gambling sites such as ‘Baccarat’ and ‘Toto’ without a clear job from January 2021 to last August, and went bankrupt in the process. At an early stage, he owed hundreds of millions of won to acquaintances and robbed a credit union when he was asked to repay the debt.

A prosecution official said, “Mr. Gil’s claim that he committed the crime spontaneously to repay business debt and raise living expenses is false.”

At approximately 11:58 a.m. on August 18, Mr. Gil entered the Mandarin Branch of Gubong Credit Union in Gwanjeo-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon wearing a helmet, hat, and mask, sprayed fire extinguisher powder, threatened employees with a prepared weapon, and stole 39 million won before riding a motorcycle. ran away At the time, there were two employees at the credit union, and when the male employee went to the bathroom, he threatened the female employee with a weapon and fled with cash in a hiking bag he had previously taken. He arrived at Geumsan, South Chungcheong Province, 50km away on a motorcycle, abandoned the motorcycle, and took a taxi back to Daejeon to avoid pursuit through a complicated escape.

Mr. Gil fled to Vietnam on a flight to Da Nang at 11:05 a.m. on August 20, two days after the crime, and gambled at a casino. He was arrested by local public security at 4:55 p.m. (local time) on the 10th and returned to Korea on the 21st. I was repatriated.

The prosecution confirmed that Mr. Gil had a serious gambling addiction, to the extent that he accessed illegal Internet gambling sites immediately after arriving in Vietnam, and also charged him with habitual gambling.
