Daedalic Entertainment Shifts Focus from Game Development to Publishing Activities

Company Daedalic Entertainment stops developing its own games. It will focus on recently significantly more successful publishing activities. The information comes from a German magazine games economy.

Daedalic Entertainment is best known for a number of point-and-click adventure games, let’s name them all The Long Journey Home, The Wispered World or series landfill. In recent years, and with attempts to deviate from the established genre, the studio began to do less well. Real-time strategy failed A Year of Rain from 2020 and most recently heavily criticized The Lord of The Rings: Gollum.

25 out of 90 employees had to leave. “We value every member of our team and it is important to us that the transition is as smooth as possible. We will therefore support our former employees in their search for new opportunities,” the company commented on the layoffs.

Daedalic was also supposed to work on another game from the world of Lord of the Rings, but it won’t happen anymore, Embracer, the licensee, was also informed about this. Gollum, on the other hand, should still wait for his patches. As a publisher, Daedalic has a broad portfolio. It is signed, for example, under the titles Shadow Tactics, Glitchpunk or It’s a peanut. A new part of the Deponia series named Surviving Deponia will not be affected by the changes as it is developed externally at AtomicTorch studio.
