Bandung –
Deputy Regent of Bandung Sahrul Gunawan and Regent of Bandung Dadang Supriatna quipped at each other on social media. This situation is thought to have been triggered by problems with the division of tasks.
Professor of Political Communication at the Indonesian Education University (UPI) Karim Suryadi said that the root cause of the mutual satire on social media between the two must first be confirmed.
“Actually, first of all it has to be confirmed with these two figures, but if you read the posts, the two seem to be intertwined. Because they are intertwined, the public relates it as an event of sarcasm,” he said via telephone, Thursday (29/7/2021).
“Although later it will be denied (not sarcastic), but the substance is like that,” he added.
Karim considered this to be common, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic, where communication is mostly done virtually.
“I’m not surprised to see this incident, for the first two reasons, the fact that the chosen leader’s honey is not getting better is getting shorter. Second, in the midst of this pressing situation, the meetings between the two characters are becoming rarer and virtual, which eliminates the chemistry, because after all the communication pattern one goes through will affect the relationship between the two characters. affect the mood and closeness of the people. Third, it can be triggered by technical reasons, whether for example a misunderstanding of the division of tasks or disagreements over the policies taken and it could also be hampered participation, “he said.
However, Karim said this should not have happened in the midst of handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
“That’s a bad example, thinking that is ethnocentric and egocentric. It’s not only bad for the running of the government but has a bad impact on compliance with health protocols, restrictions and various other treatments. Because they show they think independently, if the officials think separately why people must obey the rules made by the government,” he said.
Karim reiterated, in the midst of handling the COVID-19 pandemic, if there is an ego-sectoral relationship between the regent and deputy regent, do not expect the public to obey the rules.
“If the regents and deputy regents think for themselves, why do people have to obey government rules, after all, people have their own interests,” he said.
“If the example he thinks about is ego-sectorally, don’t expect the community to obey the rules, obey the appeal to obey the prokes, to stay at home or to obey the restrictions imposed. So this is not only hampering the running of the government, but is a bad example for the community when we need togetherness and empathy for dealing with the outbreak and its effects,” he added.
Karim said, Sahrul Gunawan must immediately meet with Dadang Supriatna and improve his communication.
“There is no other way, unless they talk from heart to heart, reading the law what are the duties and authorities of the Regent and the duties and authorities of the deputy regent. Indeed, the regent and deputy cannot be equated, after all they have duties and authorities, but the cleanliness of communication is the same. “We’re both human, we both appreciate being involved, that’s something important, even though communication won’t make the same thing different,” he said.
“They have to meet, re-read, reflect on what their initial intention was to form a coalition, examine the agreements made and they reflect on their campaign promises. Because even in silence, even under the pressure of the pandemic, even if the community demands, they demand promises,” he said.
In addition, the community also wants to see the togetherness between the regent and deputy regent Guyub to build Bandung Regency, regardless of the conditions.
“Especially in a difficult situation that the public wants to see how the two figures are present together to build togetherness, cohesiveness as a common strength to face COVID-19 does not even show something that looks different, divided, etc., if left unchecked it will weaken immunity and society. will think sectoral ego,” he concluded.
