Dad would be proud of him – eXtra.cz

The son of the legend of the Czech musical scene, Richard Hese Oskar, began his career in musicals, but is currently shining on the silver screen. After the highly successful projects Dukla 61 and Zátopek, David Ondříček cast him in his upcoming series The King of Šumava. Would he be able to behave himself like Josef Hasil and what does he think about the Czech musical scene, which was shaped by his father’s choreography? He not only talked about that in an interview for eXtra.cz.

As a child, he devoted himself to musicals, playing in Golem or Carmen. Oskar Hes (23) but from theatrical performances he got to big roles in successful projects Dukla 61 or Zátopek.

His career is on the rise. Only 23-year-old Oskar will play the lead role in the upcoming miniseries King of Šumava, an adaptation of David Jan Žák’s novel bestseller The return of the King of Šumava. Displays the story of Josef Hasil, an elusive smuggler from the Šumava borderland in 1948.

The premiere of King of Šumava is tentatively scheduled for this autumn, the miniseries will be available on Voyo. As part of the presentation of the new project, Oskar gave an interview for eXtra.cz.

Oscar, you will play the role of Josef Hasil. Did you know his story before that?

I confess, I didn’t know him before.

You are now acquainted with his story, thanks to the filming of King of Šumava. What intrigued you about his story?

The story is incredibly exciting, action-packed! In my opinion, the script is wonderfully processed according to that book. I haven’t read the book yet, I’m about a quarter. So I don’t know all things yet. I don’t want to say something I don’t know about it. But I must say that we have an amazing shooting in Brdy and Šumava. The first script I read didn’t let me breathe, and I was absolutely thrilled with it.

Have you read the book, have you seen the movie?

I saw him.

Back to your role. What part of Josef Hasil’s life will you film?

We start filming on April 4, the scripts are written until the last moment, so I don’t really know what stage of his life we will be filming.

The current situation is quite tense. Many people wonder how they would behave if the Iron Curtain fell again. Would you be as brave as Josef Hasil?

Certainly not. Since today it would probably go differently, all those military actions, given the technology. Back then they relied on their ears and eyes, today it’s different. When you ask about that courage, he was a really incredibly brave guy, and I don’t think I should. Running through the woods at night, converting people, having a gun in your hand and constantly being alert.

We are slowly getting to the current topic, the war in Ukraine. Are you watching the situation, trying to help?

I’m trying to help, I sent some money to the transparent accounts of People in Need. We donated some things to a scout institute.
There are a lot of concerts, events on this topic, so I try to participate. On the other hand, I try to dose it a bit so that I don’t go crazy.

You probably became the darling of director David Ondříček, you played in Zátopek and in Dukla 61. Now you have won the main role in the King of Šumava. How do you explain the situation?

I wouldn’t call it a darling at all. But I think we work well together. David is great, he spins well with him. I hope it lasts and that this is not the last joint project.

You are still quite young, yet you have significant roles behind you. But as a child, you seemed to be more of a musical actor. Do you miss musicals?

I played in musicals, but they were children’s roles, I don’t count much. This is not an active acting job. One does it more intuitively and usually the child plays the child.

If the offer to play in a musical came now, would you seize the opportunity?

I am not completely satisfied with the Czech musical that is happening around now. If I got a real offer that would appeal to me, yes. But I’m not quite a singer, or rather not at all, Oskar laughed. I would have to think about it a lot.
