Dad confirms – five clubs chase Frenkie de Jong: “A big bid would help Barça”

Barcelona is in an economic crisis and needs to sell players in order to ease the salary cap and free up budget space to be able to recruit players. Frenkie de Jong, 24, was recruited from Ajax two years ago and was then seen as an heir to Xavi and Iniesta.

But the success has not materialized and information in the Spanish media has claimed that the 24-year-old may leave Barcelona this summer. Frenkie de Jong’s father, John, now confirms that five top clubs in Europe have heard about the Dutchman’s services.

– I know of course that Barcelona need money and that a big bid for Frenkie would help the club, but I can not see it happening in the near future. Even though Europe’s five biggest clubs have heard of it, John de Jong tells Dutch Algemeen Dagblad.

Frenkie de Jong has previously been linked with Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Manchester City.

– It is often bad weather there. Of course it’s about football, but that comes into play, says John de Jong about the interest from Bayern and the Manchester clubs.

The 24-year-old midfielder has played 112 matches in the Barça shirt and has been noted for ten goals and 14 assists.
