No car is sold as much in Europe as the Dacia Sandero. That must mean that the car has something seductive about it. We decided to take a closer look at that popular car over the next six months. We introduce you to the latest addition to the Duurtestgarage: the Dacia Sandero Stepway, on LPG.
The appeal of the Dacia Sandero is of course firstly the price and secondly what you get for it. We will also pay attention to the value of the car more than once in the stories we will make with the car in the near future. How does the Sandero compare to cars from the same segment, but from other brands? How does it compare to a used car? And how practical is having a car with an LPG tank? It is of course nice that you can buy a liter of LPG for less than a euro, but sometimes you will have to search a bit.
Most luxurious Sandero available
The car we have is the most luxurious Sandero variant available. It’s not necessarily the most expensive, but it doesn’t make much of a difference. Only the versions with automatic transmission are more expensive, because a much larger BPM amount is included in the consumer price due to higher CO2 emissions. Dacia prides itself on the fact that the relatively low prices of its models are determined by what is not included. Think of things like digital displays instead of a dashboard with clocks, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, electrically folding exterior mirrors: it’s not available and you can’t get it. This not only saves money for the buyer, but also for the manufacturer, who does not have to prepare for these matters in the design of the car and in the factory that builds it. These are those things that are indeed nice to have, but are not necessary. Think of the electrically folding exterior mirrors: life is just as beautiful if you don’t have them. Furthermore, there is only one model of seat (with different types of upholstery, depending on the equipment level), you also see many components from other Renault and Dacia models and the materials used in the interior are neat and it looks more robust and durable than chic and soft. Anyone who wants all those modern gadgets can of course get them: from another brand.
Roof racks and roof rails in one
So what’s the point? The Sandero Stepway Up&Go is the most luxurious version. Among the luxury features that this version has, but that the more basic versions do not, include a navigation system, a reversing camera, a center armrest and a set of rubber mats (with ‘topographic design’). The Stepway variant stands a few centimeters higher on the wheels, has a slightly thicker front bumper and also has roof rails. By the way, they are quite easy to convert into roof racks, because the crossbars for them are already there. We are looking forward to it and the first action for the Sandero is on its way: it is making a trip to Italy, of course running on LPG as much as possible.
