The Dachser logistics center in Bremen has expanded its handling area in recent months in order to be prepared for future growth. With around 3,300 square meters, the hall extension for the European Logistics division now offers more space for the handling of industrial and consumer goods. The cost of the expansion is estimated at eight million euros.

As the logistics specialist reports, the Dachser logistics center Bremen European Logistics now has a total of 12,000 square meters of transshipment warehouse. Trucks can be loaded and unloaded at 132 gates in the hall, 30 of which are new. The total area of the logistics center is now almost 74,000 square meters. “We moved into the new area in the GVZ around six years ago, but now it was time to create more space to continue to cope with the growing volume of shipments in Bremen,” says Michael Schrader, General Manager European Logistics at Dachser in Bremen. “With the new building, we are well positioned for the future.”

According to the company, part of the investment is preparation for the use of electrically powered vehicles. Eight new charging points for electric cars and four charging points for electric trucks have been created for this purpose. In addition, an additional control center for driver support was created. Almost 200 people are currently employed at the Dachser branch in the GVZ.

More efficient supply chain

The close dovetailing of sea freight with land transport, i.e. onward transport by truck, is what sets the Bremen location apart. “Customers have the advantage of receiving global logistics services from a single source, because the sea freight is fed directly into our overland transport network in Bremen and delivered to recipients throughout Europe.
