AT Dabo (Moselle)there is a tourist site which is the main attraction of the village: the dabo rock.

According to the Sarrebourg tourist office, this rock was formed 200 million years ago and today culminates at an altitude of 664 m. It is 1h30 from Metz and 1h20 from Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) by car.

But what makes Dabo Rock so special?

Panoramic view, chapel…

The rock has long hosted a medieval castle which was destroyed by order of Louis XIV in 1690. Today it is a chapel dedicated to the pope Léon IX (who would have been born in the county of Dabo in 1002) who sits there.

At the top of the rock, you are elevated another 30 meters. This allows you to have a panoramic view on the surroundings of Lorraine and the Vosges mountains.

A 30-year-old treasure hunt

Finally, the visit will allow you to discover the site which would be the scene of one of the oldest treasure hunts of the world.

Since 1993, the whole world has mobilized to try to find a golden owl worth almost 150 000 euros, which could be near Dabo Rock. She was buried somewhere in France by the writer Max Valentin. He died in 2009, taking with him the secret of the owl’s location.
