It AD published the first column on Saturday by Daan Rot-de Launay, the widow of lyricist and composer Jan Rot, who recently passed away at the age of 64. In the piece, which can be found in the weekend supplement Mezza, Rot-de Launay (46) allows lightness and writes about both Jan’s last days and how the family is doing now.
In the column, Rot-de Launay, who is a writer and photographer, tells that Jan kept his work ethic until the end. For example, in his last week he did the final correction of his textbook himself and on the morning of his death he still texted his family “files, instructions, lists and ideas”.
The widow also shares that she was initially afraid that she would be shocked if she heard music from her late husband on the radio, but that the opposite is the case. “The evening after his death, I sing along with the children with all my heart. 21 years, 9 months and 9 days after our first meeting,” writes Daan.
Rot-de Launay’s first column would actually appear earlier, but it AD unexpectedly received two last columns from the singer after Rot’s death, which were published last Saturday.
