D66: ‘Rutte gives the idea that it is problematic in Amsterdam and that is not fair’

D66 party chairman Reinier van Dantzig is not satisfied with the communication of the cabinet about the arrival of corona measures in Amsterdam. Rutte spoke of ‘substantial measures’, but in the end it turned out to be mainly about extra enforcement.

In addition, a so-called escalation ladder was presented, but it contains measures that will only be implemented when the number of corona infections rises sharply. “I didn’t think it was so chic that the Prime Minister was already announcing firm measures,” said van Dantzig after the debate.

Open door

‘You get a bit of an idea, here in the Netherlands it is still possible, but in Amsterdam it is problematic’, says Van Dantzig. And that’s just not fair. Because just to kick in the open door, the virus is of little use to places of residence or regions. ‘

The mayor said in the debate that the approach to the corona crisis is generally going well and that the political parties agree. VVD party chairman Marianne Poot acknowledged that there is support in the council for the measures taken. ‘But what matters now is, make sure you communicate clearly and make sure that you indicate clearly, this will also help and ensure that you enforce it. We’ve talked about that, but the worry hasn’t gone away yet. ‘

Curfew

Van Dantzig fears that major problems may arise at the end of September. ‘I’m concerned whether the city will survive that. We will have to do everything we can. Maybe even discourage visitors or curfews. None of these are things you want to do. I’d rather not, because as far as I’m concerned we prevent it.

AT5 kept a live blog during the debate, that is read here. The whole debate is here looking back.
