D66 MP Raemakers due to burnout with sick leave | NOW

D66 member Rens Raemakers (28) stepped down as an MP for an indefinite period. De Limburger is suffering from a burn-out and is on sick leave.

“It is difficult for me to have to take a step back now,” says Raemakers. “However, doctors’ advice is now to put my health first and to take the time to fully recover. I’m going to focus on that.”

With the provisional departure of Raemakers, the Chamber loses its youngest parliamentarian. Raemakers in the Chamber was involved in vaccination and youth care, among other things. He was also at the cradle of the annual Children’s Question Time in which 150 children can test different cabinet ministers from the cabinet.

On his personal page, Raemakers describes himself as “a political animal”. “As a ten-year-old boy, I already knew exactly what I wanted to be: Member of the House of Representatives. For me, Chamber Membership was a dream come true.”

In a press release, D66 writes that Raemakers could no longer perform his work well before the Christmas recess. The days off around Christmas did not lead to the recovery he hoped for.

The D66’er expects to be able to return to the Chamber after his recovery. Until then, he will be replaced by Marijke van Beukering. It is expected to be installed as a Member of Parliament next week.
