D66: Cabinet must do a good job with nitrogen

According to GroenLinks leader Jesse Klaver, the nitrogen plans of the cabinet can go into the trash after Remkes has been advised. “Again a bad mark for the cabinet,” says Klaver. He wants to halve emissions, more nature reserves and farmers who will work in an environmentally friendly manner.

Hot knit

PvdA MP William Moorlag calls it a balanced and sound advice. “I call on the cabinet to stop twisting the hot knit. Take this advice on how to start housing construction and restore nature.” Due to the nitrogen problems, construction also largely came to a halt.

The SP and the Party for the Animals are also satisfied with the report. Remkes reminds Frank Futselaar of the SP of “a teacher who explains that with the results of the school you are sure to stay put so far”. According to Esther Ouwehand of the PvdD, the cabinet will only get a 3. “That will be doing a summer homework again.”

Not just on paper

The ChristenUnie, the party of Minister Schouten, emphasizes that this cabinet is the first cabinet to really start reducing the amount of nitrogen in nature. Three billion euros has been earmarked for this, says MP Carla Dik-Faber.

Dik-Faber also wants the cabinet to focus on measures that work not only on paper, but also in practice. She expects a lot from making the construction sector more sustainable. However, all sectors must make a contribution as far as she is concerned. “The bill should not only be deposited with citizens or farmers, but industry and aviation should also reduce nitrogen emissions.”

The PVV is downright negative about Remkes’ advice. According to Geert Wilders, the report can go straight to the trash. Stricter nitrogen regulations are only necessary to “slavishly comply with the Brussels regulations. And further destroy our farmers,” he says.
