At Columbia University in New York, the General Secretary of the KE of the KKE Dimitris Koutsoubas was on Friday morning, next to the students who are facing persecution and repression, as they are occupying against the war in Gaza and the genocide of the Palestinian people by the state of Israel. At the same time, in many university institutions in the USA, the students are in mobilizations and occupations.
Responding to a journalist’s question about the mass of the mobilizations, Dimitris Koutsoubas emphasized that “this is very important, it does not surprise us, it fascinates us. We believe that this is how history progresses, this is how we will manage to stop the war and start another society, a happy life without the deaths of civilians, without the deaths of children, without massacres of our fellow human beings.”
In fact, the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE referred to polls and measurements he saw which show, as he said, a huge increase in the support of the American people in favor of Palestine compared to a few years ago, for solidarity with Palestine “and of course denouncing the murder committed by the state – killer of Israel”.
Dimitris Koutsoumbas emphasized that there is actually a major student uprising underway that already embraces dozens of universities throughout the USA and thousands of students are on the streets in solidarity, also in Europe.
He explained that he is in Columbia to express the KKE’s solidarity with the students who are fighting for freedom in Palestine, “to stop this barbaric, unjust war, the genocide of the Palestinian people” while he noted that demonstrations are also taking place in Greece of student unions outside the American embassy in support of their fellow students in New York, “against the repression and authoritarianism that the government is trying to use, to suppress these righteous demonstrations.”
He proposed the demand to stop here and now the war in the Middle East as a whole, especially in Gaza, in Palestine, to stop the occupation of Palestinian lands by the State of Israel. He also highlighted the importance of the struggle for freedom in Palestine, on the 1967 borders, stating that he agrees with the demands made by the Palestinian community, the Palestinian Authority around the world.
