On Thursday, the German airline put its third Airbus A321 Neo into service. The jet with the registration D-ANMX immediately experienced an odyssey. The destination: Madeira.
It has the registration D-ANMX and is green and white striped. Condor’s third Airbus A321 Neo went into service on Thursday (15 August). The first round trip from Düsseldorf to the airport in the Greek city of Preveza and back went smoothly.
The subsequent flight from Düsseldorf to Funchal Airport on Madeira, Portuguese Aeroporto Internacional da Madeira Cristiano Ronaldo, also went as planned for a long time. But shortly before reaching the Atlantic island, the D-ANMX began to fly circles over the sea. It completed a total of 18 circles, sinking during the flight. Then, after a loop, it headed for Porto Santo Airport on the neighboring island of the same name and landed there.
The flight from Düsseldorf to Funchal, diverted to Porto Santo:
From Porto Santo to Tenerife
The reason was “the local weather conditions on Madeira with strong winds,” as a Condor spokeswoman explained. Other flights from Condor and several other international airlines were also unable to land at Funchal Airport and were diverted. Several of the jets even returned to their departure points afterwards.
The D-ANMX, on the other hand, took off again towards Funchal around two and a half hours after landing in Porto Santo in the early evening. But the Airbus A321 Neo again made four laps before reaching its destination of Madeira. Once again, landing was not possible. Then the green and white aircraft flew to Tenerife South Airport in around 50 minutes.
On Friday afternoon the landing was successful
The plane took off from Tenerife on Friday afternoon. It flew four more laps off Madeira. But this time it managed to land in Funchal and the odyssey was over.
