Czechs are interested in electric cars, sales have tripled. He leads Škoda and Tesla

Sales of electric cars on the Czech market rose from three to 1888 vehicles year-on-year from January to the end of October. The number of hybrids sold then increased by 43 percent to 9474 cars. Of this, the number of so-called plug-in hybrids in the socket increased, mainly due to the entry of Škoda into the segment, from 324 to 1,337 cars. This follows from the current data of the Association of Car Importers. Total car sales fell by more than a fifth in ten months.

The best-selling brand of electric cars was Škoda with 732 Citigo iV cars, followed by Tesla with sales of 357 cars and Hyundai, which supplied 291 cars with pure electric drive. Škoda has already announced that it is ending production of the Citigo iV, which will be replaced by the Enyaq car and other electric models on the new MEB platform.

In the hybrid market, Toyota leads with 3170 cars sold, followed by Ford with sales of 1241 hybrid cars and the third is Suzuki, which sold 92 cars less. Skoda sold 620 hybrid Superbs and 38 Octavia.

“Current numbers confirm that hybrids and electric cars have become more widely known in the Czech Republic. All this without any significant state support. There are more and more brands offering them, so there is really a lot to choose from. People are beginning to realize that hybrids are very reliable, while offering economical ecological operation that is not conditioned by charging from external sources. Toyota currently has a hybrid variant of almost every model except commercial vehicles, “said Martin Peleška, CEO of Toyota and Lexus in the Czech Republic. At Lexus, hybrids accounted for over 90 percent of cars sold.

Hybrids together with electric cars already make up almost seven percent of cars sold in the Czech Republic. A total of 165,154 passenger cars were sold in the Czech Republic from January to October, which is 22 percent less than last year.
