With the eight-goal victory, coach Karel Rada’s charges equaled the victory over Azerbaijan from the World Cup qualification in August 2010. Their record triumph is a 12-0 victory over Lithuania in 1997.
In the second duel of group C, the favorite Dutch will present themselves on the Icelandic field today from 20:45.
Fire right from the start
The Czech national team wanted to follow up on the successful start of the qualification in Liberec, when in the first match they drew silver defenders and reigning European champions from the Netherlands 1: 1 on the field. Against the Cypriot outsider, they took the lead in the 9th minute, when Stašková ended a successful team action.
Three minutes later, the Czechs managed to increase their lead after Charzembusová knocked Szewieczková’s center into her own gate. Rad’s choice continued to set the pace of the game, and in the opening half hour, the emphatically arriving Dubcová also prevailed. Krejčiříková also hit the break after a pass with Stašková’s hard shot.
It was Martínková
The Czechs also dominated in the second part and after two precise headings Martínková and another hit Stašková got into the lead by seven goals. The final state was sealed in the third minute of the set time by alternating Cvrčková. The 20-year-old forward scored the first goal in the first start in the national jersey.
Nine winners of the qualifying groups will advance directly from Europe to the World Championships, which will be hosted jointly by Australia and New Zealand in 2023, and the teams from the second places will have a draw. Rad’s trustees are striving for the premiere participation in the big tournament.
