Czech University Hockey Association Unanimously Votes for Mandatory Neck Protection

The vote of the Czech University Hockey Association was unanimous. All nine club representatives decided to introduce mandatory neck protection. “There was nothing to wait for. The purpose of our competition at the moment is to produce educated people whose lives are a large part of sports, not professional athletes,” said the president of the association, Tomáš Hlaváč, in a press release.

“Our players are future doctors, lawyers or economists and we would be very happy if they could practice their professions in the future without injuries that can be prevented in time. In the future, we certainly do not rule out the reintroduction of mandatory face protection,” Hlaváč said.

Neck protectors have already been made mandatory in Great Britain (also from January 1) and immediately in Germany, in the Canadian junior WHL competition or in the reserve teams of the Pittsburgh Penguins, where the 29-year-old American forward Johnson previously worked.

In the Czech Republic, neck protection must be worn by players under the age of twenty. Even those who start in the extra league. The competition itself does not yet plan to tighten the rules.
