Tennis player Kateřina Siniaková did not advance to the 3rd round of Wimbledon. The winner of the recent tournament in Bad Homburg lost a duel with Ukrainian Lesja Curenko in one hour and 26 minutes 4:6, 1:6. Debutant Linda Nosková failed in the 1st round, losing to Hungarian Dalma Gálfiová 7:6. 2:6 and 2:6, nor Roland Garros finalist Karolína Muchová. She fell after losing to German Jule Niemeier 4:6, 7:5, 1:6.
World number 32 Siniakov lost after six matches. At the All England Club, she failed to follow up on her triumph from the opening round, in which she knocked out the tournament’s twenty-fourth seed Cheng Qin-wen from China. Against Curenko, who also knocked out Barbora Krejčíková at Roland Garros a few weeks ago, she paid the price with 31 unforced errors.
The beginning of the duel was characterized by breaks. Both exchanged serve three times and Siniaková was able to come back from a 2:4 disadvantage. But in the important tenth game, she lost serve for the fourth time and the Ukrainian took the lead. In the second set, Curenková was 100 percent on serve, won two breaks and converted the second match point.
Eighteen-year-old Nosková was supposed to play against Gálfiová already on Tuesday, but the program was postponed by rain. The previous year’s winner of the junior Roland Garros had a well-played match with the 126th player in the world. She held serve in the first set and although she missed three set points at 6:5, she won three balls in a row from 5:6 in a dramatic shortened game.
The 24-year-old Hungarian improved after that. Nosková did not allow a single break point and turned the match around thanks to four breaks. She played 24 winning balls and took advantage of the second match point after less than two hours.
Karolína Muchová and Germany’s Jule Niemeier are also finishing the 1st round of Wimbledon from the Czech female tennis players today. Jiří Lehečka, Barbora Krejčíková, Markéta Vondroušová, Barbora Strýcová and Marie Bouzková will enter the 2nd round.
