Siniakova started the duel with the American women by defeating Collins 3:6, 2:6. Markéta Vondroušová revived the chances of a triumph in group A and promotion, who outclassed Sofia Keninová twice 6:1 in the duel of team number one. The doubles match was decided, where Krejčíková and Siniaková succeeded in one hour and 26 minutes.

“We knew it was a tough match. Somewhere in the corner, we probably all believed that Maky would bring the point, and that Kačka could give a little peace. But Collins played a fantastic single. The doubles was great from our side,” Pála told reporters. “Every win tastes great, especially at this level and against a team as good as the USA. I am proud and happy for the players. But tomorrow is another day,” declared Pála.

The Czechs still have a chance for their twelfth triumph in the competition and the first in the new game system, which applies from 2021. Pál’s selection defeated the 18-time champions for the third time in a row and, just like last year, in the fight to win the group and advance to the semi-finals. On the American women’s bench, Kathy Rinaldi said goodbye to the defeat, who will be replaced by Lindsay Davenport next season.

Seven-time Grand Slam champions Krejčíková and Siniaková confirmed their long-standing partnership against Townsend and Collins. The Czechs outplayed their opponents in the number of winning balls 30:12 and broke their serve seven times.

“It was a challenging duel, the emotions at the end were huge. I was very happy that we succeeded. The match was very difficult. Playing against America, who have so many good players and can put it together in any way, is difficult. But we played well and performed very well,” said Krejčíková.

The winners of this year’s Australian Open started the match with a break and immediately after that they turned away four break point chances of their opponents. In the end, they took the serve of the Americans two more times and won the first set in 33 minutes.

In the second set, Krejčíková and Siniaková caught up with the lack of a break three times, but from the score of 3:4, they allowed their opponents only one game. In the twelfth game, the Americans used the first match point while serving.
