Czech Supermarkets in Hot Water for Selling Highly Objectionable Fruit: Consumers Warned to Be Vigilant

Basically, not a day goes by that customers of Czech supermarkets do not find out what they bought wrong and what they have to get rid of immediately, because the merchant bought goods somewhere with a huge discount, but then he is caught that it is highly objectionable.

A good dose

One does not even want to imagine the number of cases that remain undiscovered. There will probably be many more, as the State Agricultural and Food Inspection has only limited capacities for inspection. He is doing a worthy job, but the retail chains know very well that most of their misdeeds are not easily discovered, so it pays off for them anyway.

The big failure is currently attributed to the Albert chain, which imported highly objectionable fruit into retail sales, which literally leaves one’s mind standing. He didn’t sell it cheap, but for real money.

It is none other than peaches originating from Greece. However, when she subjected them to examination in the laboratory, it was immediately clear that it was really bad. “In peaches, the maximum residue limit of the pesticide chlorpyrifos was exceeded almost three times,” states the inspection on its own websites. Specifically, the amount of pesticide was measured at 0.029 mg/kg. This is indeed too much and is three times over the clearly stated limit.

Too late?

In the discussion, people focused not only on the notoriously low-quality food in Czech stores, which are also expensive. They also don’t like the practice of finding out about the harmfulness of a certain food after a long time, when they have mostly already consumed it. It is no different in this case as well.

However, in addition to this, the inspection notes an important thing, namely that it cannot act only as a preventive measure, since it will always be a bit behind the logic of the matter. “The aim of the Food in a sack project is, among other things, to bring the issue of food safety and quality closer to the consumer and to provide comprehensive information on the findings of the State Agricultural and Food Inspection,” she stated in her response to the criticism.

In this way, it alludes to the fact that people should actively pay attention to which chains and foods are highlighted in this project, especially then repeatedly. It can be a certain guide, for example, where not to buy or what to watch out for.
