BRATISLAVA. In less than five months, the Czech Republic will host the WC in hockey. The venues will traditionally be the O2 Arena in Prague and also the Ostravar Arena, where Vítkovice’s home matches are played.
However, when the Czech Republic wants to organize this sports holiday again after 2024, it is possible that Ostrava will be replaced by another city with a hockey tradition.
A new multifunctional arena should be built in Pardubice. Its status was officially given the green light, the investor of the building will be the group DD Invest Petr Dědek.
“We will build one of the most modern arenas in Europe, which will become an iconic building of Pardubice, representing the city, the region and the Czech Republic. The arena will serve sports, especially hockey.
It will also be a place for cultural events, entertainment and congress tourism. Our current plan is to open the arena in August 2027 and play the extra league in it from the 2027/2028 season,” Dědek told the website of the Dynamo Pardubice club.
As is the case with similar modern buildings, a hotel, training areas, a parking garage and a museum of Pardubice hockey will be part of it.
The estimated costs are eight billion Czech crowns, i.e. 326 million euros. The city of Pardubice is not to participate financially in this project.
The capacity has not yet been precisely determined, but it should surpass the 15,000-place mark.
Similar to, for example, Tehelné pole in Bratislava, the arena in Pardubice will be able to adapt its colors to the ongoing event. Of course, it will be a red-white combination for Dynamo’s home matches there.
Pardubice, for which Slovaks Peter Čerešňák, Martin Bučko and Matej Paulovič also start, lead the extraleague table with a lead of seven points over Sparta. On Thursday, after a superb performance, they beat Olomouc 8:2.
