At a meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group on Friday, the Czech Republic expressed its readiness to upgrade several dozen more T-72 tanks as part of a partnership project with the United States and the Netherlands to bolster military support for Kiev.

Deputy Czech Minister of Defense Daniel Blazhkovets told the participants of the Ramstein meeting that the Czech Republic “combines maximum donations from army reserves, purchases from state funds, joint purchases and commercial deliveries” in the issue of assistance to Ukraine.
He added that Prague’s current priorities in terms of armed support for Kyiv are BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, tanks, large-caliber ammunition, electronic warfare, reconnaissance and air defense equipment.
Among other things, as part of a trilateral project with the United States and the Netherlands to supply more than 90 modernized T-72 tanks, Ukraine has already received 37, “and more are being added every month.”
“We propose to increase the production rate by dozens more (tanks – ed.), if the partners are interested in financing this project,” said Ales Vitečka, director of the Czech Intergovernmental Defense Cooperation Agency (AMOS).
And Blazhkovets added that the Czech Republic is ready to negotiate the creation of a center for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy equipment on the basis of the state company VOP and several private companies.
Recall that at the meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format, a meeting of the heads of the defense departments of the countries included in the so-called “tank coalition” was held.
The meeting participants signed a protocol of intent on establishment in Poland of a Technical Service Center and maintenance of Leopard 2 main battle tanks delivered earlier to Ukraine.
