Czech Racer Aims to Bring NASCAR Glory Home to Europe
Twenty-nine-year-old Martin Doubek has a dream: to become the first Czech driver to race in NASCAR America. This ambitious goal isn’t just about speed and skill; it’s about bridging a cultural gap and introducing a new generation of fans to the exciting world of European NASCAR.
Doubek, a rising star in the European NASCAR scene, isn’t just dreaming – he’s actively pursuing his aspiration. He’ll be competing in both the EuroNASCAR 2 and EuroNASCAR PRO series behind the wheel of his modified Ford Mustang, challenging seasoned veterans and aspiring rookies alike.
"People have a subconscious idea that NASCAR is just driving around the oval and turning left," Doubek says. "But both in Europe and America there are series where races are run on normal tracks." He believes this common misconception holds back NASCAR’s popularity in Europe, despite its logistical similarities to Formula One.
Doubek’s confidence stems from a string of impressive victories. In 2021, he stormed to victory in the EuroNASCAR 2, marking him as a force to be reckoned with. This year, he returned to dominate the series, capturing six victories including the prestigious Grand Prix of Most on his home turf. "The atmosphere of the American festival attracts people, they like the atmosphere, and especially the cars," Doubek observes. "When they hear the sound of a revving engine, it’s real racing – and these old-school cars are fun for the fans. They’re getting a taste for it."
His championship victory is a testament to his skill and dedication. Doubek began his racing career in karts before joining the European NASCAR ranks in 2015. He found his stride after joining the Hendriks Motorsport team in 2019, steadily climbing through the ranks with impressive consistency.
Now, Doubek stands poised to take the next step in his career. His sights are set on NASCAR America, where he hopes to showcase his talents on a larger stage. If he succeeds, Martin Doubek could become more than just a racer; he could be a pioneer, introducing a new generation of fans to the thrill of European NASCAR.
