Gasoline and diesel prices have increased in the Czech Republic over the past fortnight, more than the average for the entire European Union. In the Czech Republic, a liter of gasoline cost 38.30 at the end of July, two weeks later it was 1.1 crowns more. In the European Union, it rose by an average of 0.60 crowns, according to data published by the European Commission.

In the European Union, gasoline in the Czech Republic is the tenth cheapest despite the increase in price. The price of gasoline in Austria rose by the same amount as in the Czech Republic, where drivers now pay 33.1 crowns per liter. The most expensive purchase of gasoline is in the Netherlands, where a liter costs 50.1 crowns.

In Slovenia, for example, its price has risen more than in the Czech Republic in the last two weeks – by 1.4 crowns per liter.

In the same period, the price of diesel rose by four crowns, from 33.50 crowns to 37.50 crowns per liter. In the European Union only by 1.80 crowns per liter. In Austria, the price of diesel fuel rose by two crowns, in Slovakia and Croatia by 1.60 crowns. However, the Czech Republic still remains the sixth country in the European Union with the cheapest diesel.

Excise duty on diesel has been increased by 1.5 crowns per liter since August 1, bringing it back to the same level as last May. The consumption tax rate on diesel fuel thus returned to the original amount of 9.95 crowns per liter.

According to data published by the European Commission, Poland is the only country in which both gasoline and diesel have become cheaper over the past two weeks.
