This year, Czech Railways will expand its offer of summer tickets. A group ticket will now be on sale from tomorrow, which will always be valid for one day in the period from June to the end of August. According to the carrier, it responds to the current market situation. Czech Railways expects that many people will postpone plans for trips abroad and prefer to stay in the Czech Republic.
The summer ticket allows unlimited travel for one or two weeks, depending on the length of validity. A summer group ticket will have a different concept: it will always be valid only for the day. Up to five passengers can go on one ticket, but only two of them over the age of fifteen.
A group ticket may not always pay off
The all-day version for the entire Czech Railways network costs 699 crowns. While in the case of Summer Tickets for individuals it is not necessary to deal with the price in terms of from 85 crowns per day for an adult, their advantage in the case of a group ticket is worth thinking about whether it is really advantageous for them due to state discounts for selected groups of passengers.
The seven-day version for a person over 15 costs CZK 790, the two-week version CZK 1,190, and if, for example, a family with two children plans to travel for several days in a row, it may be cheaper to buy a network ticket for adults only and buy individual tickets for children with a 75% discount. from taxpayers’ funds.
On the contrary, Czech Railways gave an example in a press release when such a ticket will pay off. “For example, if a family of five with two adults and three children plans a one-day trip from Prague to Třeboň, where there are direct express trains, they will pay a total of 699 crowns for a network ticket allowing them to travel there and back, ie 70 crowns per person and one way. In addition, during the day they can connect with any of our other connections or, for example, on their way back, brake in Tábor and refresh themselves in the Jordán reservoir,“Gave the example of Czech Railways. When buying regular tickets a day in advance, the family would pay CZK 1,038.
“With this new time-limited offer, we want to address everyone who plans to travel to the beauties of our country in the summer. In order for families with children or groups of two friends to take trips not only on weekends, when it will undoubtedly be very busy at many sights, we decided to offer a similar ticket in the season, valid any day of the week. “ says Jiří Ješeta, Member of the Board of Directors and Deputy General Manager for Sales.
The summer group ticket will be on sale at all ČD ticket counters, train staff, in the ČD e-shop and in the My Train application. The offer can be used by a maximum of 5 passengers at the same time, with a maximum of two passengers over the age of 15. The ticket will allow an unlimited number of 2nd class journeys of all Czech Railways trains within the selected territorial validity. In the case of the use of mandatory local trains (SC Pendolino, etc.) it is necessary to purchase a reservation.
