Czech Railways has ordered twenty new long-distance trains for 12.5 million crowns – ČT24 – Czech Television

“In the Czech Republic, it is planned to increase the speed on conventional lines to 200 kilometers per hour and to build high-speed lines. This will allow trains to run higher than the maximum permitted speed of 160 km / h in the future. That is why we must continue with the planned investments in new trains, which will meet the requirements for the standards of vehicles operating on both conventional and high-speed networks in Central Europe. We will thus strengthen long-term strategic partnerships within the framework of international transport and strengthen our position in long-distance transport, “said the head of Czech Railways Ivan Bednárik.

The state carrier counts on the new sets on the interstate long-distance lines Prague – Ústí nad Labem – Berlin – Hamburg, Prague – Brno – Budapest and Prague – Brno – Vienna – Graz – Villach. Already in the first years of operation, trains should use their maximum speed at least in the section between Berlin and Hamburg.

Trains will have fixed inter-car connections. Allows barrier-free passage

Trains will be built on the concept of non-traction return sets. According to the carrier, this reduces operating costs and shortens the time required for the turn at the terminals, because it is possible to remotely control the electric locomotive at the opposite end of the train from the control car.

Trains will also have some features typical of high-speed sets. These are, for example, fixed inter-vehicle connections, which enable barrier-free passage through the entire train and prevent the penetration of noise, cold and dust from the outside environment. Each set should have nine cars. The sets will be assembled from first and second class cars, a restaurant section, a children’s corner, storage space for large luggage or bicycles and other parts.

The contract also includes two other cars for the Railway Administration, which wants to use them for track testing. It will be a diagnostic kit for regular measurement of static and dynamic parameters of the traction line, which will replace the existing measuring car more than 30 years old. The administration joined the Czech Railways contract, as it would have been more expensive for the organization on its own.

Czech Railways thus continues to invest in the rolling stock. At the end of February, the railways ordered 33 new motorized barrier-free trains for the regions from the Polish manufacturer PESA Bydgoszcz SA. They will pay almost three billion crowns for trains. If the regions are interested, the tracks can take up to 160 of these trains in the future.

ČD expects to invest despite the current coronavirus crisis, due to which it recorded sales losses of more than four billion crowns last year alone.

Czech Railways now has more than five hundred locomotives, up to a thousand complete sets and over two thousand cars.
