The Czechs beat Argentina 28:22 at the World Championship six years ago and were also in control today. The silver medalists from last year’s North and South America Championship kept pace with the favorite for about the first quarter of an hour, losing by a goal. Starting at 7-7, Dahl’s selection scored five goals in a row, and just before the break, after a series of three hits, he took a 16-10 halftime lead.
The national team practically equalized the result of their match on Thursday, only one goal separated them from the 32:22 victory over Congo. Coach Dahl also succeeded in his second duel on the Czech bench in the final tournament, and his charges won the seventh of the last eight matches.
“We wanted to win and get two points, which we did. There were definitely some mistakes and there is still something to work on for the next matches. But we can be satisfied with the overall result as much as possible. We can go into the third match with a clear head. I dare to say that we will have to perform even better in order to win next time,” said Czech captain Markéta Jeřábková, the author of seven goals.
“Argentinians played well in the first half of the match against the Netherlands. It was a challenge for us, we were well prepared. We basically had the match under control. I am very satisfied with how the cooperation between the more experienced and younger players is working for us so far,” the coach evaluated the match Dahl.
The national team advanced to the World Championship from the basic group, just like the year before, when it took the final nineteenth place under the leadership of the previous coach, Jan Bašný. The Czech highest since the division of the federation is eighth place from 2017. For the first time in history, the final tournament is hosted by three countries – Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
