The sudden death of a talented pianist saddened the Czech music scene. Václav Mácha, who worked in the Czech Philharmonic for the last decade, died at the age of only 43.
Colleagues of the talented musician informed about the sad news on Facebook. “We are deeply sorry to announce that pianist Václav Mácha has died on Saturday. He has been a member of the Czech Philharmonic since September 2012. Sincere condolences to the whole family,“they stated in a statement.
Mácha also worked in the Josef Suk Piano Quartet and lectured at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU). He also studied there in the 1990s, and was the youngest listener in the class of pianist Ivan Moravec.
At the age of 15, he had his first recital in Dvořák’s Hall in Prague’s Rudolfinum. In 2009 he performed at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the BBC Proms. In addition to AMU, Mácha also studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover.
He died unexpectedly at just 43 years old. The survivors have not yet said when the last farewell will take place.
