The ranking of the most sought-after cars on the Czech market continues to be dominated by domestic Škoda. Nine of the ten best-selling cars in our country are then manufactured in domestic factories.

In the first half of 2021, 112,805 new cars were registered on the Czech market, which was 18.7% more than in the same period last year. A strong June also helped. This follows from the statistics of the Association of Car Importers.
Although the situation improved year-on-year, the first half of last year was strongly affected by the effects of the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic, but in the first months of the year the situation remained worse than in the last five years. From January to May, the volume of registrations corresponded roughly to the years 2014 and 2015.
The change in this direction was until June, 22,561 registered cars were not only a better result than for last June (20,771 registrations), but also better than in June 2019 (21,902 registered cars). The weaker sales at the time were explained by the smaller impact of re-exports due to a less favorable exchange rate or the survey of potential buyers due to the impending economic crisis. This year, registrations affect the problems of cars with a shortage of semiconductors.
In any case, the Czech market is still dominated by the domestic Škoda this year, whose 39,644 registered cars correspond to a market share of 35.14%. However, year-on-year, the brand is growing more slowly than the overall market, by 8.5%, which means that its market share fell from last year’s 38.5%.
Volkswagen is in second place, followed by Hyundai, while both brands reached over 10,000 registrations in the first half of the year. Toyota then moved to fourth place, with 5,130 registrations, which continues in a successful period on the Czech market. Mercedes-Benz also continues to hold high, with 4,945 registrations fifth overall.
On the contrary, Dacia and Renault are losing ground. The Romanian carmaker finished tenth among the brands, with a year-on-year decline of 32%, which is the result of the end of the popular Dokker and Logan MCV models. The eleventh Renault is down 16.5% year-on-year, due to a decrease in registrations of popular models such as the Clio (-13.4%).
The top 20 is closed by the Japanese brands Suzuki, Mazda, Nissan and Mitsubishi. While three of them are growing year on year (after last year’s fall affected by the coronavirus pandemic), three diamonds are falling by 17.2% this year. However, there can undoubtedly be less emphasis on the European market, which is associated with an older range of models.

The ranking of the best-selling models then proves that the Škoda Fabia surpassed the larger Octavia in registrations in the first half of 2021. It reached 8,011 registrations (-3.1% year-on-year), against 7,892 Octavia pieces (-24.2% year-on-year). The Fabia is thus declining slightly, despite the fact that a new generation is behind the door, which will affect sales.
Another ranking proves that nine of the ten best-selling cars on the Czech market are manufactured in domestic plants. The only exception is the ninth overall Volkswagen Golf, which jumped by 219.7% year-on-year after last year’s slump caused next to the covid by the arrival of a new generation. The four most popular Škoda cars are followed by the Hyundai i30. The Korean brand also has a Tucson produced in Nošovice in the top 10. This year, Seat Arona, who sold out warehouses before the arrival of the facelift, also scores points, and after entering the market, the Ford Puma has been doing well for a long time.
