Czech Hockey Player Vojta Mozík Returns to Sparta after 8 Years

A big role in signing with Sparta was played by the fact that Mozík, a native of Prague, has been living in the Czech capital during the summer for the past three years and has a family there. “I was already tempted to return to the Czech Republic, we traveled a lot. It would be nice to stay in one place after years of traveling,” said Mozík.

“Vojta is a very good defender, he played for many years in prestigious European competitions, that says it all. He will strengthen our defense even more,” reminds the head of Sparta’s sports department, Tomáš Divíšek, that Mozík played 7 games in the NHL in his career for New Jersey, also worked in the KHL (Podolsk, Kunlun, Vladivostok) and tried the Swedish top competition (Färjestad, Rögle).

The participant of the 2018 and 2022 Olympic Games is returning to the Czech extra league after eight long years. Before that, he wore the jersey of Mladá Boleslav and Plzeň, with whom he celebrated the championship title in 2015.

“He is already the second right-hander we are bringing into the defensive line. He has experience from the national team, he won the extra league and the Champions League (last year with Rögle – author’s note). I believe it will be beneficial,” says sports manager Jaroslav Hlinka.

In Sparta, Mozík will wear the jersey with the number 27, which forward Ostap Safin wore on his back until now. “We talked about it together and I won’t have it cheap,” laughs Mozík, who is looking forward to working with coach Hořava, who will be in charge of defenders in Sparta after the arrival of Pavel Gross.

“He is a great icon of Czech hockey, a former great defender. We talked earlier and it was one of the important arguments for me to choose Sparta,” admits Mozík and dreams of lifting the championship cup at the end of the season, which Sparta has been waiting for since 2007.

“That would certainly be beautiful. We will do everything to make it happen. As the head coach already said, there are a lot of quality teams in the extra league and it will be very difficult. But Sparta always has a high-quality squad and we will attack the highest goals,” he concludes.
