Czech football coach Roman Skuhravý has extended his contract with FK Železiarne Podbrezová for another four years. The official website of the Nike League participant informed about it.
Skuhravý joined the team before the start of the 2021/2022 season and immediately advanced with the team from II. league to the highest Slovak competition. As a rookie, Podbrezová subsequently finished fourth, narrowly missing out on participation in the European Cup. This season, the “ironmen” are currently in fourth place, having won 26 points in the fourteen matches so far.
“I see it above all as a great commitment to all involved,” said Skuhravý on the occasion of signing a new contract. “We made it clear to the players, fans, but also to the general football public that we believe in what we are doing and it is not over yet. I didn’t need a long time to think at all. It was a surprise for me that the club offered me such a long-term contract and for me it’s a huge honor. For me, the decision was easy because I always want to see the goal and we are currently somewhere in the middle of our journey. We are moving slowly, I want to be a part of it and I would be sorry if I could not be there.”
Skuhravý started his coaching career in the youth categories of FK Jablonec. Later, he became the head coach of “A” and led it to fourth place in the league, as well as to the first place in the Czech Cup. Later, he advanced to the finals of the cup competition with the second division Opava, with whom he fought his way to the highest Czech competition a year later. He came to Podbrezová after three years on the bench of Dukla Praha. He coached a total of 87 matches on the “Ironmen’s” bench, including 30 matches in II. league (24-2-4), 47 duels in the Niké league (21-10-16) and 10 appearances in the Slovnaft Cup (8-0-2).
“We are very happy that after previous debates we have agreed on another four-year cooperation. Coach Skuhravý has not finished his work in Podbrezová yet, he is one of the best coaches in the league and we are proud that he has linked his future with our club.” stated the club’s general manager Miroslav Poliaček.
According to the president and chairman of the board of directors of FK Železiarne Podbrezová, Vladimír Soták Sr., a four-year contract extension is a rarity in the Slovak league: “When we look at other teams, how coaches change, the fact that Roman Skuhravý has been in Podbrezová for the third year proves that he has made Podbrezová a better Podbrezová. Thanks to him, we have improved the quality of the game, our performance on the field. Podbrezová is trying to play football and whoever I meet in Slovakia will say that Podbrezová plays nice football. We could have had more points, but we are playing with a young team, the boys are working hard and they must learn to keep the ball, especially at the end, so that we don’t score goals. But with other bigger teams also have a problem with that.”
