The reputation of the Czech Cup is gradually rising, but you wouldn’t know it from the rewards for referees. For an almost three-hour shift with overtime, Rouček took five times less than his colleague Pechanec after the classic 90-minute league derby four days later.
“I am surprised. You whistle a match where clubs and players play for big money, and you take five thousand…” remarked Šmicer.
To clarify: five thousand crowns is the rate for matches whistled in the cup’s round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals. One thousand is taken for the match in the first to third round, after the final the referee gets 17 thousand.
Border judges understandably have less, for example for the quarter-finals, they get two and a half thousand.
“Isn’t it in pounds?” joked the jack-of-all-trades František Ringo Čech in Tiki-Tac. Anyway, we’re still talking about crowns…
League referees have already been discussed, the main ones get 25,000 and video referees 10,000. Even the second league can still get by compared to the cup: the main ones take 15,000, which is also the rate for assistants in the top competition.
“I think that just like a player goes to play a derby, the referee doesn’t look at whether he takes five or thirty thousand,” said Erich Brabec, technical director of the Football Association. “Yes, it is a topic for discussion. Nothing can be done about it now, the remuneration is a given. But if the cooperation with the Liga Football Association is set up differently from next year, we will definitely talk about the remuneration for referees.”
