Czech and German armourers will cooperate in the production of vehicles. The joint venture will be called Tatra – ČT24 – Česká televize

Representatives of both companies signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of tactical military vehicles at Prague Castle on Wednesday. President Miloš Zeman was present at the signing.

Rheinmetall is one of the largest European arms companies. In the Czech Republic, it is applying for a contract for the production of 210 tracked infantry fighting vehicles. The company recently won a similar contract in Hungary. Both companies want to focus on the Visegrad countries (Czechia, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary) in cooperation.

“As part of this new strategic partnership, both companies will enable the transfer of defense technologies between Germany and the Czech Republic in order to implement projects in the Visegrad Four countries and in other countries,” said Čírtek. According to him, CSG will become a key Czech production and sales partner for Rheinmetall. Other Czech defense companies will be involved in the cooperation as suppliers.

The companies want to establish a joint venture in the area of the Kopřivnice Tatras. It will have this brand in its name. According to Čírtek, CSG can get involved in cooperation with the Rheinmetall group quickly. He said that the joint venture means that Czech-German relations will expand into a strategic industrial area.

“A new strategic company will be established in the Moravian-Silesian Region, which will not be an assembly plant, but a developer and manufacturer of modern defense technologies,” he added. According to him, the Czech defense industry will thus expand its capabilities in the field of track ground technology, and new qualified jobs will be created in the joint venture and among suppliers.

“We are looking forward to cooperating with Rheinmetall and we firmly believe that our cooperation will be a milestone in the modernization of the armed forces and the Czech defense industry,” said CSG owner Michal Strnad. “There is potential for the Czechoslovak Group to become a partner of Rheinmetall in the Czech Republic and beyond in the field of replacement and modernization of combat systems,” he added.

According to Rheinmetall Chairman of the Board Armin Papperger, CSG can join the existing global supply chain for a wide range of German company’s defense products.

Čírtek noted that the negotiated partnership does not depend on domestic projects and contracts, but has long-term potential, because Rheinmetall’s production capacities are busy and it needs quality Czech suppliers.

“Rheinmetall and CSG are ready to invest in the development of production capacities and the development of new technologies in the joint venture,” he said. According to him, the first step in the joint venture will be to transfer the production of technical groups and subgroups of ground technology within the projects on which Rheinmetall is currently working.
