CZ.NIC launches a project to connect the mojeID service to the NIA

Driver’s score, personal pension insurance sheet, e-recipes or confirmation of study. Hundreds of thousands of registered users of the service will now be able to access these and other electronic state services mojeIDwho attach a security key to their account and go through the full authentication process. The CZ.NIC Association, the administrator of the Czech national domain and the operator mojeID, today announced the launch of a project that will enable the connection of this service with National Point of Identification and Authentication (NIA). The CZ.NIC Association has been operating mojeID since 2010 and has registered almost 700,000 accounts in the 10 years of its operation.

As of today, the connection of our mojeID service to the NIA system is fully functional and ready for everyone who wants to use it. In recent weeks, we have thoroughly tested everything in a pilot operation, during which several dozen regular users successfully joined the NIA. We are now launching a campaign to distribute security keys to selected users. At first, the campaign will be by invitation only, later we will open it to a wider range of mojeID users. At the same time, we are looking for a way to ensure that security keys are easily available even after the end of the retail campaign, he says Ondrej Filip, Executive Director of the CZ.NIC Association.

Recently, there has been talk of the BankID service, which should work on a similar principle as mojeID. In this context, I would like to add that we are, of course, open to wider cooperation, including with entities from the financial sector. MojeID has been operated by our association for ten years and during that time it has become a proven and flexible platform that can be used both for communication with the public administration and in common online services requiring accurate identification, adds Ondřej Filip.

An innovative element that the mojeID service comes with is the use of security keys according to FIDO Alliance standards. These keys, in contrast to chip card technologies, do not require any reader – the physical key can be connected via a USB connector or using NFC and Bluetooth wireless technologies. In addition, modern operating systems offer the use of a system key directly linked to a user’s account on his computer. This applies, for example, to Windows 10 with the Hello or Android function (from version 7). Users of these systems do not have to obtain any security keys and can immediately start comfortably using public administration services without the need to install additional applications on their systems.
