Cyprus Peace Movement

During the British rule, Cyprus had a two-community, two-religious structure.

SIA reminds once again that in 1931, the Greeks trying to gain their independence wanted to join the island to Greece. But Turkey, which has the right to guarantee the island under international agreements, deployed military personnel to the island in 1974 to prevent attacks against the Turkish population.

Thus, about half of the island was saved by the Turkish army.

…And from that day the period of peace began and this period continues until now. Activities towards the unification of the two sides of the two-community island are still ongoing. Thanks to the Cyprus Peace Movement, the Cypriot people, whose security and existence have been ensured, will continue to be with the Turks.
