New Delhi. Cyclonic storm ‘Tej’ emerging from the south-west Arabian Sea will not have any impact on Gujarat. An official of India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information. IMD had earlier said in a statement that a low pressure area has formed in the south-east and south-west Arabian Sea and it is likely to develop into a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 21. According to the formula being adopted for naming cyclones in the Indian Ocean region, it will be called ‘Tej’. According to IMD, there is a possibility that on Sunday it may take the form of a severe cyclonic storm and may move towards the southern coasts of Oman and nearby Yemen.

However, IMD said that sometimes cyclones also change their path. According to IMD, by the evening of October 22, it is likely to develop into a severe cyclonic storm and move towards southern Oman and Yemen coast. The Meteorological Department said that the cyclone ‘Tej’ will move towards west-northwest direction. In such a situation, it cannot have any impact on Gujarat, which is in the west. The weather will remain dry in Gujarat for the next seven days. State Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey said that at present there is no danger from Cyclone Tej.

It is noteworthy that Biparjoy storm, which arose from the Arabian Sea in June, had caused severe devastation in many areas of Kutch and Saurashtra in Gujarat. Earlier it was moving towards west but later it changed direction and hit the Kutch coast. This will be the second cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea this year. Meteorologists have warned that sometimes storms can deviate from the predicted path, as was seen in the case of Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’. After initially moving in a north-westerly direction, Biparjoy passed towards Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan.

Skymet Weather, a private weather forecasting agency, said that most models indicate that the storm is moving towards the Yemen-Oman coast. However, global forecast system models suggest its recurrence over the deep central parts of the Arabian Sea. Due to which this cyclone can also move towards Pakistan and Gujarat coast.
