PONT-CHATEAU – Slovak cyclocross representative Viktória Chladoňová won a bronze medal in the junior women’s category at the European Championships in Pont-Château, France.
She fought her way to the podium despite a worse start, at the finish line she was 31 seconds behind the winning local competitor Celia Geryová. Another Slovak, Sofia Ungerová, finished in sixth place (+2:24 min), Dorota Vojtíšková took 27th place (+5:15).
“The track suited me, even if the mud was a bit of a problem, also in terms of concentration. I also fell a lot and messed up the start, so it wasn’t very ideal. I tried to fight my way to the front. I’m very happy with this result.” stated Chladoňová in the video of the Slovak Cycling Association.
The venue of the ME was hit by a hurricane in recent days, for which the organizers adjusted the competition program and moved the Saturday starts to Sunday. In the junior category, three Slovaks also presented themselves, the highest of them was Peter Šoltés in 47th place with a loss of 4:04 minutes to the winning Frenchman Aubin Sparfel. Tobias Hajkovský was 50th (+4:40), Jakub Benca 59th (+1 lap).
