Cyclists are not a higher order species

The editorial team received the following letter to the editor of the article “Fair controls for more security” on May 27:

The “Green Youth Würzburg” has become the administrator of the cyclists (whether they support all of this, it remains to be seen), the “dominance of the car must finally be ended”; here the sentence would have to be completed “and replaced by the dominance of cyclists”.

For example, the Berliner Ring forces cyclists to leave the prescribed direction of travel to avoid wasting time, sometimes using the marked pedestrian crossings. Pedestrians of all ages, including “people with walkers or parents with prams”, especially to and in the inner city “pedestrian zone”, primarily in the new, beautiful downhill section on Eichhornstrasse, represent an obstacle for cyclists with and without a backpack that is difficult to assess .

Branding the days of action that were carried out at the time (which incidentally will also be given to drivers) shows once again that bans only apply to others and violations are of course punished, but if they hit you yourself, they are not fair.

In the mainstream of ecological assessment of people’s living together, cyclists have a different status in road traffic than in previous decades. That is the normative power of the factual. I do not like to see or accept that they represent a higher order species.
