Cyclists are fatally injured by cyclists in Olaine region while avoiding a collision with an animal

On Sunday at 10.04 in Stūnīši, Olaine region, a road traffic accident occurred, as a result of which a person died, the State Police was informed. Preliminary information shows that the driver of the Škoda car was driving on the road on which the animal ran.

To avoid a collision, the driver drove off the road and, unable to regain control of the vehicle, rode into a cyclist born in 1944, who died at the scene of the injuries. The driver was also injured in the accident and taken to hospital. The police continue to explain the circumstances of what happened.

In total, during the last three days, the State Police has registered 147 road traffic accidents in the Riga region, in which one person died and 31 were injured. The victims include eight pedestrians and ten cyclists, according to information from the State Police.

Within three days, law enforcement officers detained 13 drivers under the influence of alcohol (only 11 on Saturday) and three under the influence of drugs. Six protocols of administrative violation have been drawn up for aggressive driving in Riga and the vicinity of the capital, and 224 protocols for exceeding the driving speed.

Since Friday, 32 bicycle thefts and one car theft have been registered in Riga and Pieriga, as well as six thefts from homes.
