Cyclists against remodeling McGuinness Blvd.

Hundreds of cyclists protested in Brooklyn over the redesign of McGuinness Boulevard.

But despite criticism, the city says they will move forward with the plan.

When asked about the deal, the Adams administration said the reluctance on both sides of the issue reflected a strong compromise.

Under the new plan, from Calyer Street to the Pulaski Bridge, there will be one bike lane in each direction and two lanes of traffic between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Outside of these hours, a traffic lane becomes a parking lot, as shown in figure A.

Figure B shows what McGuinness Boulevard will look like from Meeker Avenue, just off the BQE Highway to Calyer Street: one bike lane in each direction, one parking lot, and one traffic lane.

The town is going with Plan A, but Plan B was the design preferred by community groups.

The advocacy group Transportation Alternatives estimates that at least 150 people have been injured on this stretch of road since July 2019.

The work will start next month.
