On the Hoge Watergangweg in Vrasene, the parallel road next to the E34, a cyclist died in an accident on Tuesday morning.

The man was driving his speed pedelec when he was hit by a truck at just before 5 o’clock at the intersection with the Duikeldam. The victim ended up under the truck. The emergency services immediately came to the scene, but the victim could no longer benefit. He was instant dead.
The driver of the truck, owned by a company from Sint-Gillis-Waas, was in shock. He was taken in and interrogated by the police.
A traffic expert from the public prosecutor’s office came to investigate further how the accident happened. Due to the accident, the roadway was closed to traffic in both directions until 9 a.m. A local diversion was instituted.
