Slovenian Primožs Rogličs (“Jumbo-Visma”) reached the first finish, one second ahead of the second-place Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Karapas, who last year was unbeaten in the overall Giro d’Italia.
The lime tree was separated from the winner for 20 minutes and 14 seconds.
The participants of “Vuelta a Espana” have to cover 2897 kilometers, divided into 18 stages, in the last big tour of the season until the finish on November 8 in Madrid. The bike ride was scheduled to start on August 14 in the Netherlands, but due to the pandemic, both the route and the time of the 75th Vuelta a Espana changed.
The competition in Spain has gathered many high-level cyclists, among whom Roglich will try to defend the title won a year ago.
