Emīls Liepiņš, a cyclist of the team “Trek Segafredo” who started for the first time in one of the three big tours of the season, finished in 12th place in the last stage of “Vuelta a Espana” in Madrid on Sunday, but Slovenian Primožs Rogličs (“Jumbo-Visma”) information.
In the final -18 stage, the German Pascal Akerman (“Bora-Hansgrohe”) won the group’s final sprint. Liepiņš finished in the 140-kilometer section with the same result as the winner.
In the overall standings, Roglich maintained a 24-second lead over his closest rival, Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Karapas. Liepiņš ranked 124th in the 142 finishers competition four hours, seven minutes and 22 seconds behind Rogličs.
In the Spanish tour with many difficult mountain tests, Liepiņš also reminded himself of the 9th stage, where the 28-year-old athlete finished in 13th place.
The participants of “Vuelta a Espana” measured 2897 kilometers in the last big tour of the season, which was divided into 18 stages. The cycling trip was scheduled to start on 14 August in the Netherlands, but the pandemic changed both the route and the timing of the 75th Vuelta a Espana. The competition in Spain brought together many high-level cyclists.
