Calls to gather are being launched almost everywhere in France. Four days after the death Tuesday evening in Paris of a 27-year-old cyclist, killed after a dispute with a motorist, gatherings in homage to Paul are organized in several cities in France this Saturday. “This tribute is a message to our leaders: stop motorized violence”, write the associations at the origin of the call. The young man was fatally hit by a car after an altercation Tuesday evening in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. The motorist, aged 52, was indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention this Friday.
“This drama resonates with many of us”
Rallies and a minute of silence are planned at 5:45 p.m. in front of town halls from several dozen cities in France, at the call of Paris en Selle, of which the young cyclist was a member, the French Federation of Bicycle Users, Mieux se Déplacer à Bicyclette, and the Collectif Vélo Île-de-France.
“We are in shock, sad, angry. This tragedy resonates with many of us “, write the associations. “As cyclists, we have all already been victims of motorized violence: honking, insults, intimidation, sudden overtaking and more…”
