Thirty-two users and nine employees of the home of the Social Center of S. Torcato, in Guimarães, were positive in the tests of covid-19, a person in charge of the institution told Lusa today.
Paulo Novais, judge of the Irmandade de S. Torcato, added that two users had “some feverish symptoms”, so they are admitted to the hospital.
“All the others are asymptomatic,” he said, noting that even those who are hospitalized “do not inspire special care”.
The first positive case was detected on Friday, after which the Social Center provided tests to all users and employees, and the results were known on Sunday.
“Practically all users were positive,” said Paulo Novais.
He also said that “all necessary steps are being taken” to combat the outbreak, in “close collaboration” with Social Security, Civil Protection and the Guimarães Chamber and in accordance with the guidelines of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) ).
The counties of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, Guimarães and Vila Nova de Gaia are currently the most critical areas in relation to the number of cases with covid-19, announced today the DGS.
“Regarding critical areas, most municipalities are still located in the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, and Guimarães and Vila Nova de Gaia are also municipalities with the highest incidence per 100 thousand inhabitants,” said the director-general. da Saúde, at the regular press conference to update the covid-19 numbers in Portugal.
The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 924,968 deaths and more than 29 million cases of infection in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
In Portugal, 1,871 people died from 64,596 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent DGS bulletin.
