Cycling: Grenoble Alpes Métropole invests €5 million per year

“As part of our metropolitan action plan voted last July, we have planned to invest €5 million per year in cycling policy, ie 25% more than during the previous mandate. » Christophe Ferrari, President of Grenoble Alpes Métropole, was present alongside Sylvain Laval, President of the Joint Union of Mobility of the Grenoble Area (Smmag) and Laurent Amadieu, Mayor of Saint-Egrève, on Friday May 13, to inaugurate the new greenway from La Priola to Saint-Egrève.

This 600 m long cycle path was built on an old public path that was abandoned and invaded by vegetation. Seven months of work allowed the creation of this track accessible to cycles and pedestrians. The cost amounts to €470,000 for Grenoble Alpes Métropole with a contribution of €62,000 from the City of Saint-Egrève for the public lighting part.

Chronovelo

“It’s an active network that will connect two important districts of the city in full mutationcomments the mayor, Laurent Amadieu. On one side, the Grand Champaviotte district with 210 housing units that will come out of the ground. On the other, the Gare eco-district with around a hundred finished homes; road improvements remain. We have the will to develop this district on a tenement of 4 ha where a company should move and where there will be housing. »

In 2021, 10 km of cycling facilities have been created. “We want to link the territory with the Chronovélo networkrecalled the Ferrari president. This includes nearly 20 km extra in 2021 and 2022.” 6 km of Chronovélo are thus planned this summer in Saint-Egrève, on the peninsula of Grenoble and in Gières and 400 m, in the autumn, in Pont-de-Claix.

RD524

In addition, Grenoble Alpes Métropole is working with the Department to secure the circulation of cyclists on the RD524 between Gières and Uriage. A public meeting should take place before July on the subject, in particular to present the constraints (including a major sanitation project scheduled for early 2023 for a period of nine months) and possible developments. Studies are underway to specify the nature and cost of this work, which could reach 6 to 8 M€.
