Animals are a rare sight in the dystopian future of Cyberpunk 2077. Many common species have become extinct by 2077, so even cats and dogs have become rare in Night City due to high taxes hampering their upkeep. However, exotic pets remain popular among the rich and powerful, and are actively sold on the city’s black market.
Cyberpunk 2077 players can get an iguana as a pet by finding and hatching an egg in Konpeki Plaza. While many will likely miss this Easter surprise, the iguana is a fun little thing that gives V a friend to interact with in their apartment. In addition to the cat, which can also be tamed. And something similar should return in the next Cyberpunk game, even if it’s not a reptile.
In the prologue of the Nomad Lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077, V and Jackie smuggle an iguana across the border from Southern California to Night City. Although Jackie will express a desire to keep the iguana as a pet, players will have to look elsewhere for the reptile.
This opportunity appears at the end of Act 1, during the Theft quest from the main campaign of Cyberpunk 2077. After infiltrating Konpeki Plaza and gaining access to Yorinobu’s penthouse, players who turn left after exiting the elevator will find Yorinobu the iguana sitting on a log on a raised platform. Players can interact with the iguana, triggering a short conversation between V and Jackie. The only iguana egg in Cyberpunk 2077 is hidden in the shadows at the opposite end of the log.
As a nomad, V will ask Jackie if this is the iguana they brought into town. No, but since this species is supposed to be extinct in 2077, and both are associated with the Arasaka Corporation, it is likely that Arasaka is breeding or cloning these reptiles.
After escaping Konpeka, players must complete the mission. After speaking with Takemura at Tom’s Diner, players can return to V’s apartment in H10 and find a small ceramic bowl sitting on the table behind the hidden door to V’s stash. The egg must be placed here, where it will hatch after 90-110 in-game days, to the delight of V and Johnny. Cyberpunk 2077 players can then pet the iguana at any time, and Johnny will appear and start playing his guitar when they do so.
Pet in the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077
In the desktop version of Cyberpunk, the megacorporation Biotechnica solved the pet problem. Back in the 2020s, she was selling cloned versions of animals to anyone who could pay for them. Their offerings included common pets like dogs, cats, and small birds, as well as rare, dangerous exotic animals like leopards, gorillas, and dolphins.
By 2077, Biotech had largely shifted its focus to cybernetic implants and synthetic meat, which provided the majority of the protein in Night City’s diet. However, there is nothing to indicate that it has stopped selling pets – although they are likely more expensive than ever.
The release of the sequel is still a long way off, but the fan community believes that CD Projekt RED should repeat the activity to create even more pets. Or add a quest line for Biotechnica to gain access to a wide range of beasts. Moreover, the most obvious and simple choice is a personal aquarium with fish.
In addition, the main character of the sequel could have a feathered pet, a turtle or a snake. Some gamers are suggesting on the subreddit that the hero of the next game could breed exotic animals or sell them in his own store, although this sounds too ambitious. But adding fishing or hunting in the wasteland are completely feasible mechanics.
Well, the most obvious option is a robotic or virtual pet. It’s surprising that there aren’t any of these in Cyberpunk 2077, especially since there are plenty of all kinds of robots here.
