According to a report by Bloomberg, the climate around Cyberpunk 2077 it would be hot and not just outside of CD Projekt RED.
As reported by two people who took part, yesterday December 17th a video meeting of the management was held with the staff of the Polish software house, and the developers would have asked for an account, in very bright tones, of the debacle of the launch from last week.
“Revolt is in the air”, we read in the reconstruction signed by the former Kotaku Jason Schreier.
“Frustrated and angry staff fired questions at the board during an internal video meeting Thursday that opened with the management who apologized for the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077, according to two people who were present.
The developers asked direct questions about the company’s reputation, the game’s unrealistic deadlines, and relentless overtime in the months and years leading up to the December 10th release ».
During the meeting it was revealed that the management had reached an agreement with Sony about the removal of Cyberpunk 2077 to the PlayStation Store, although the move felt more one-sided (by the PS5 manufacturer) than anything else.
Speaking of the crunch, which included six-day workweek periods, executives responded to angry developers that «they have plans to improve manufacturing practices in the future”, without however providing details.
Among other allegations, there is also that of a developer who he asked why the board had said the title was in January “Complete and playable” when it wasn’t; “To this the board replied that he would have assumed his responsibilities”.
To give an idea of the climate, “Another developer asked if CD Projekt executives warned the hypocrisy of playing a game on the exploitation of corporations while they expect their employees to work overtime “; the answer would have been vague and evasive.
“It was clear to many of the developers that they would need more time”, concludes the bitter reconstruction of Bloomberg.
In a special today we discussed CD Projekt RED’s disorganized crunch and how the industry should behave to avoid similar cases in the future.
